Seek First: Trusting God with Your Season of Singleness

"But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be provided for you. Therefore don't worry about tomorrow, because tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."Matthew 6:33-34 (CSB)

If you're a single Christian woman, you've probably asked questions like, "When will God bring me the right person?" or "Why does it seem like everyone else is moving forward while I'm still waiting?"

These questions are natural. The desire for marriage is not wrong. God created us for relationship, companionship, and community. But when our desire for a future relationship begins to consume our thoughts, steal our joy, or make us question God's goodness, we may need to revisit Jesus' words in Matthew 6.

What Does It Mean to Seek First God's Kingdom?

Jesus tells us to seek first God's kingdom and His righteousness. In other words, our primary pursuit should not be a relationship, a title, or even a future dream. Our primary pursuit should be Christ Himself.

Seeking God's kingdom means making Him the center of our lives today, not someday when our circumstances change.

It means asking:

  • How can I grow closer to Jesus in this season?

  • How can I serve Him where He has planted me?

  • How can I reflect His character in my daily life?

  • How can I use my gifts for His glory?

Singleness is not a waiting room for real life to begin. It is a season with purpose, opportunities, and blessings uniquely designed by God.

Trusting God With the Things We Cannot Control

One of the hardest parts of being single can be surrendering the future. We often want answers, timelines, and guarantees.

Yet Jesus reminds us that our Heavenly Father already knows our needs.

He knows your desire for companionship.

He knows your prayers.

He knows the tears you've cried and the hopes you've carried.

Nothing about your story has escaped His attention.

Seeking first God's kingdom means trusting Him with what you cannot see while remaining faithful with what He has placed in front of you today.

Stop Living in Tomorrow

Jesus follows His command to seek first the kingdom with another powerful instruction:

"Do not worry about tomorrow."

How much of our anxiety comes from trying to solve problems that don't even exist yet?

We wonder:

  • Will I ever get married?

  • What if I miss God's plan?

  • What if I remain single forever?

Jesus gently calls us back to the present.

Today's grace is for today's challenges.

Today's opportunities are for today's obedience.

God does not ask us to carry the burdens of tomorrow. He asks us to trust Him one day at a time.

Finding Joy in the Present Season

The enemy wants single women to believe their lives are incomplete until marriage. But Scripture never teaches that.

Your value is not found in your relationship status.

Your identity is not found in being someone's future wife.

Your worth is found in being a daughter of the King.

When you begin to see your singleness through the lens of God's kingdom, you can stop viewing it as a season of lack and start viewing it as a season of growth, purpose, and deeper intimacy with Christ.

A Final Encouragement

If you are waiting for God to write the next chapter of your story, remember this:

You do not have to figure out your entire future today.

You do not have to force doors open.

You do not have to carry the weight of tomorrow.

Instead, seek Jesus today. Pursue His presence today. Walk in faithfulness today.

As you place God's kingdom first, you can trust Him with every unanswered question and every unfulfilled desire.

The God who holds your future is worthy of your trust.

Reflection Question

What would change in your life if you spent less time worrying about tomorrow and more time seeking God's kingdom today?

Prayer

Father, help me seek You above every earthly desire. Teach me to trust Your timing, Your plans, and Your goodness. Keep my heart focused on Your kingdom and give me peace as I walk through this season of singleness. Thank You that my identity is found in You alone. Amen.
